Attracting international employees

Having international staff at your company can help open new markets and afford previously unknown insights. If you want to attract international talent, it is good to know about the possibilities and the relevant procedures. In this section, we provide some useful information on the 30% tax ruling, hiring interns and employment opportunities for spouses of your international employees. To make sure you are aware of the main procedures, we provide a checklist that you can go through when you want to hire a foreign national.

The 30% tax ruling

The Dutch government wants to make working in the Netherlands attractive for internationals, especially for highly skilled people who possess specific expertise that is scarce in the Dutch labour market. The government therefore devised the 30% ruling. This tax reimbursement scheme is designed to compensate additional expenses that foreign employees incur, such as travel, housing and international education or childcare costs. Under this rule, when the necessary conditions are met, you as an employer may grant your international employee a tax-free allowance of up to a maximum of 30% of their gross salary. This can be a huge selling point in convincing a foreign national to relocate to the Netherlands.

Jobs for spouses

International employees coming to the Netherlands to work often bring their spouses, who also wish to build a new life and further their careers. The IWCUR helps employees’ partners settle in as well. It is important that foreign nationals feel welcome and ease into their new lives.
