Fun Things To Do

Check out these fun activities that you and your family can participate in safely, indoors or outdoors.

National anthem singalong
In all of the Netherlands, bells will ring out at 9:55 a.m. as a symbol of union. At 10:00 a.m. everyone is invited to join in singing the national anthem from their balcony, garden or front porch. Find the lyrics and music here.

Follow King’s Day on national TV
The whole day, Dutch public television station NOS will broadcast special programmes with highlights of previous King’s Days and live coverage of the royal family’s visit to the High Tech Campus in Eindhoven.

Toast to the King
Raise a glass to King Willem-Alexander at 4:30 p.m. in a national toast. This moment is televised from Palace Soestdijk in Utrecht Region. Pour yourself a glass of lemonade or oranjebitter and ‘proost’ (cheers) to the King and to our health.

Practice Dutch
Looking for a stress-free way to practise your Dutch skills? The ambassadors of the International Welcome Centre Utrecht Region are inviting you for an online Dutch conversation night the day after King’s Day (28 April). It’s free and a great way to meet fellow internationals in the region!

Find Miffy in the city of Utrecht
Did you know that Dick Bruna, the creator of Miffy, was from Utrecht? For King’s Day you can download this special Miffy poster and hang it in front of your window so we can together turn Utrecht orange. Then head out into the city with your children and see how many times you can find Miffy!

Sale shop Dutch goodies
The official shop of Utrecht Region is holding a sale with special items for King's Day! What do you think of orange Utrecht socks, a T-shirt with a Dutch flag, or orange Miffy toys? Have a look here.
