King's Day Special 2020

Welcome to our online King's Day Special!

You are probably familiar with the famous Dutch phenomenon Koningsdag or King’s Day. For those of you who are not, you must know that the celebration is a tradition that Dutch people care about deeply. It is a huge happening in the Netherlands and we would like to take this opportunity to introduce you to this festive tradition.

Unfortunately, due to the current circumstances, the festivities in the cities and towns are cancelled. However, this does not mean that we cannot celebrate. We made this online special to give you a proper King’s Day experience. On King’s day, this webpage will be filled with tutorials, fun facts, festive activities and videos. Celebrate King’s Day on your own, with your family, kids or roommates: online and indoors. Let’s make it a fun and festive day!

The King's birthday

On Monday 27 April, we celebrate the birthday of the King of the Netherlands: Willem-Alexander. ‘Koningsdag’ is normally a huge happening. The Dutch celebrate with live music, street parties, festivals, flea markets and fun fairs and everyone is covered in orange as a show of pride for the Dutch Royal family, the House of Orange-Nassau. And the King himself visits a town or a municipality in the Netherlands as a part of the celebrations. This year we are going to celebrate as well, but in a slightly different but fun way!
