Capital city of the province of Utrecht
Utrecht is situated in the heart of the Netherlands and is the ‘capital’ of Utrecht Region. With over 350,000 inhabitants, it is not only the country’s fourth largest city, but it is also the nation’s fastest growing and healthiest. Utrecht is also one of the happiest places in the world, according to the United Nations. An ancient university town built around the Dom Tower, Utrecht is renowned for its historic city centre and the many wharf cellars which hug the canals and house a great selection of cafes and restaurants. Thanks to its long, rich cultural history and a young, diverse population, the city is vibrant, creative and inspiring and a fine place to live, work or study.
The city’s central location is one of its many ‘selling points’. Utrecht can rightfully be called a central meeting point. It is located near the intersection of the country’s most important motorways and its railway station is a major transit hub that connects the city with many national and international destinations. Schiphol International Airport and Amsterdam are also within easy reach, just 30 minutes away.
There is always something to experience in Utrecht. You can wander around for days and still discover new things. With many charming squares, restaurants catering to all kinds of tastes and various museums, shops, cinemas and theatres, the city has something for everyone.

City Centre
Utrecht’s city centre has countless characterful alleyways, canals, wharfs and historic buildings. Vehicle traffic is kept to a minimum. The medieval city centre is compact and orderly and just a few minutes’ walk from the main railway station. It is perfect for discovering on foot and offers an increasingly diverse range of shops, restaurants and leisure activities.

Northeast (Vogelenbuurt, Tuindorp, Wittevrouwen)
The north east of Utrecht is centred around Griftpark. The area has a lively mix of attractive houses, both new and old. But what makes it so unique is that, despite the high density of housing, the streets are green and spacious.

East (Wilhelminapark area)
Located between the city centre and Utrecht Science Park, the neighbourhood around Wilhelminapark boasts a wide range of restaurants and cafes as well as many large characterful houses. The first-rate facilities, attractive green avenues and monumental mansions make this the poshest district of the city.

West (Oog in Al)
Oog in Al is a relatively affordable neighbourhood. Situated close to the city centre and the ring road, the area is quiet and relaxed but also hosts various lively attractions such as SOIA, the local urban beach.

Leidsche Rijn
Leidsche Rijn is a new neighbourhood on the west side of Utrecht. The area was developed just a few years ago and is very suitable for families. Prices are relatively low and properties are quite large here. Leidsche Rijn Centre recently opened and hosts various amenities, including a cinema, restaurants, bars and a wide range of shops. The area has its own train station which affords direct access to Utrecht Central Station.
