Nieuwegein is both close to the city of Utrecht and the countryside, offering affordable housing in an economically strong area. The municipality came into its own from the 1970s forward, as it rapidly began to develop to meet the increasing demand for family housing near Utrecht. Because of this, Nieuwegein is at its core a very young and thriving city.
There are numerous leisure options available, like relaxing at the river Lek, going surfing, strolling through Park Oudegein, or visiting the city theatre. There are also many neighbourhood shopping centres so there is always an opportunity for shopping nearby.
Nieuwegein is located between three highways, the A2, the A12 and the A27, which makes it perfectly connected to cities like Utrecht and Amsterdam. It takes just 15 minutes to get to Utrecht city centre by tram, to be able to benefit from all Utrecht centre’s amenities.
